In contrast to whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate undergoes further filtration to remove virtually all of the lactose, making it more suitable for those who have difficulty digesting lactose. Whey protein isolate is known for its rapid absorption and ideal ratio of all nine essential amino acids (EAAs)—which includes the branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs)—necessary for stimulating muscle protein synthesis [1, 2]. In other words, whey protein isolate is about as good as it gets for kickstarting the muscle-building process after working out.
